The Authority, Provenance and Semantic Governance Research Series

The Authority, Provenance and Semantic Governance Research Series is a long term research programme produced by Younis Group under the Search Sciences™ programme. The series examines structural conditions relating to authority, provenance, semantic organisation and institutional governance in AI mediated information systems.

The research is motivated by the observation that contemporary digital ecosystems increasingly rely on computational interpretation, probabilistic ranking and automated synthesis, while lacking formal mechanisms for establishing the legitimacy of representations prior to processing. The series explores the implications of this shift and examines how authority, provenance and structural integrity may be understood within evolving digital infrastructures.

Each paper contributes to a cumulative line of inquiry, progressing from foundational analysis of admissibility and legitimacy through examination of verification architectures, semantic governance and institutional oversight. The work is analytical in orientation and is published as a working paper series to support scholarly discussion and ongoing research.

The Search Sciences™ programme was established under the leadership of Mohammed Younis, Chief Scientist at Younis Group.

Verification-First Architecture

White Paper No. 2 develops the architectural response to the admissibility problem defined in White Paper No. 1. It introduces verification-first architecture — a model in which representational legitimacy is established before ranking, aggregation, or generative synthesis occurs — and traces its intellectual foundations to the Islamic Golden Age tradition of information science.

Semantic Governance in Admissible Knowledge Systems

White Paper No. 3 extends the research programme beyond verification into the governance of meaning. It introduces deterministic entity architecture as the structural requirement for semantically stable AI-compatible systems, and traces its intellectual foundations to Al-Farabi’s tenth-century classification of the sciences — the direct antecedent of ontological placement as a governance constraint.

White Paper No. 4
A Federated Architecture for Verified and Governed Knowledge Systems

White Paper No. 4 formally introduces the two architectural components that implement the preceding papers’ principles: the Verified Source Protocol, the computational heir of Imam Al-Bukhari’s isnad methodology, and SHAMIL™, the structural implementation of Al-Farabi’s classification of the sciences. SHAMIL™ derives from the Arabic شامل — comprehensive, universal, all-encompassing, and complete.
